I placed a poppy on the Gnoll gate today (with permission) for Neath and Wales rugby player Fred Leonard Perrett. Fred later went on to play for Leeds in the rugby league, then their rivals Hull prior to war breaking out.

Fred served in the Welsh guards, then later on in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers and served on the Western front. He fought in the third battle of Ypres sustaining injuries and returned to fight as part of an attack in Foret de Mormal where he sustained injuries that would eventually prove fatal. Fred died on 1st December 1918.
