TONNA 17 PONTARDAWE 15

Tonna held on to win against Pontardawe in the Boxing Day game at The Gnoll.

Tonna took an early lead when full back Nicky Fisher squeezed in for a try which wing Josh James converted but Pontardawe replied with a try by prop David Morris and the visitors took the lead through a penalty by outside half Steffan Rees.

Pontardawe went further ahead when Rees crossed for a try to make it 15-10 at halftime. Both sides vied for supremacy in an evenly-fought encounter and Tonna took the lead when referee Craig Davies (Briton Ferry) awarded them a penalty try to make it 17-15.

Both sides had chances and Pontardawe missed two late penalties – the second of which rebounded from the left upright – before Tonna cleared their lines
and, when Ponty’s last-gasp move hit the touchline, the final whistle sounded to give Tonna victory..
