Neath RFC

The final composition of the Premiership for next season – indeed, for the next three seasons – will be decided at Glynneath on Saturday,

For Abernant Park, home of Glynneath RFC, will determine the destiny of North Wales club RGC – win and they will be in the top Division; lose and they will be consigned to the Championship and Pontypool will return to the Premiership.

It will not quite be “High Noon” as the game kicks off at 2.30pm but the stakes will be high and Glynneath are preparing for an invasion of Pooler supporters.

Glynneath, of course, are safe following their excellent 46-29 win at Bargoed last Saturday. The Valley club and Neath have co-operated strongly this season when many players have appeared for both clubs in a mutually beneficial relationship.

Neath team manager Martyn Morris said, “We at Neath were delighted at Glynneath’s success last week as it is very important for us to have as many local clubs playing at as high a level as possible. In that respect we were equally as pleased to see Skewen’s promotion to the Championship confirmed so we will have two teams from the Neath area in the Division.

“Our congratulations go to Resolven and Crynant too on winning Division 3A and 3C as part of our overall aim is to see standards improve in the Neath district as a whole. Obviously, not all sides will be promoted but really all our clubs, irrespective of League standing, are to be congratulated for keeping the rugby flag flying.”

So any Neath supporters looking to get a first peek at next year’s opponents need look no further than Abernant Park on Saturday – but be early !
