Dear Former Player,

You may or not be aware that the Chairman of the Neath Former Players association Mr Ron Waldron has stood down from his role. Ron has been the Chairman since it was reformed but he is not leaving the association completely and has accepted the role of President which has been vacant since Brian Thomas passed away.

The present members of the association committee have asked if I would take on the role of Chairman of the Former Players. I have accepted the offer and am keen to carry on the good work that Ron, Brian, Mike Thomas, Dai Parker, Mike Price, Alun Roper have started and would like to think the association can add to its membership and continue to flourish.

From my attendance at Former Player events it is apparent that there is a big void of Former Players from the late 1990’s to the present at our ‘get together’s and, with filling that void in mind, former captain Mr Steve Martin has agreed to take up the position of Vice Chairman to assist in contacting the ‘younger former players’.

Membership for the Former Players is just £5 per year. That covers an early-season buffet and a festive get together (Jan 6th before Cardiff Cup game). There is also an annual dinner which usually costs £20 per head. The dinner is due to be held in Neath Rugby Club on Friday 2 March 2018.

Over the coming weeks I will be attempting to make contact with as many Former Players as possible especially former club captains to assist with contact details of those players who are not known to me or details I would find it difficult to obtain.

The invitation to attend the dinner is also open to present and former Neath supporters who may wish to indulge themselves in the company of the players who have helped create the history of this great rugby club.

Although I will endeavour to get in touch with as many players as possible, I am never going to reach them all without your assistance. So please with the use of modern day mediums such as Facebook, Twitter etc if you could pass this message on I would be very grateful.

This message will be placed on the club’s main website too so please let’s try and support the Former Players and especially the dinner on 2 March 2018.
