Neath RFC have re-signed former Wales Under-20’s wing Ashley Evans from Llanelli.
The Glynneath-based three-quarter who works in the Neath area, returns for a second spell at The Gnoll having made 30 appearances already for the Welsh All Blacks up to 2015/16 when he departed mid-season for Parc-y-Scarlets.
Ashley has regional experience with both Ospreys and Scarlets and figured regularly in 2017/18 for the Llanelli in the Premiership where he has made 37 appearances.
Educated at Llangatwg Comprehensive School then at Neath College, the 5’11, 13 stone winger who turned 24 last month will add extra quality to Neath’s back division next year.
Talking of his return to The Gnoll, Ashley said, “To be honest, I never really wanted to leave but at the time Llanelli offered me a second crack at making a return to full-time rugby. Neath were very good in not standing in my way then and it would be nice to re-pay that by scoring a few tries in what is a handy-looking back division.
“I’m looking forward to committing myself to Neath in the Premiership and I am really excited about working with a top class coach like Lyn Jones. I know a lot of the boys already and Neath have made some really good signings, looking towards the top end of the table next year rather than the bottom.”
Neath RFC Head Coach Lyn Jones said, “Ashley is a very talented player who has a lot to offer. He is a sound all-round rugby footballer with good skills and positional sense. He has already packed in a lot of experience and is now entering the prime stage of his career as a wing. We will be looking to bring the best out of him over next and future seasons.”
So, welcome back on board Ashley – everybody is looking forward to seeing you run out again at The Gnoll.
