Neath Rugby have added to their squad with the signing of ex Tredegar, Newbridge and Cross Keys hooker, Darren Hughes. The 16 stone, 28 year old front rower played one hundred and forty times for Cross Keys over the past five seasons, scoring eighteen tries.
Neath Rugby Team Manager, Martyn Morris commented on the new signing ‘We clearly needed another hooker in the squad to compete with Sion Crocker and Garin Lloyd as it was a problem position for us last season when we picked up a couple of injuries. Once Darren became available it was a no brainer to get him on board. He’s a former Welsh super heavy weight amateur boxing champion so he’ll add some further steel to the squad and he doesn’t concede an inch on the pitch.’
Darren commented on joining up with Neath ‘Neath is a great fit for me as it’s a blue collar club. Everyone knows Head Coach Simon King is a no nonsense guy and I’m really looking forward to learning off Forwards Coach Paul James, so the move suits me nicely. The boys are really up and running with pre-season so we can’t wait to play the August games and show the supporters the fruits of all our hard work.’
Welcome on board Darren, the Neath supporters are looking forward to seeing your uncompromising style of play on the Gnoll.
