Neath RFC

Neath have signed Skewen full back Gareth Morris who will thus join his brother Cameron in a family affair at The Gnoll.

Gareth made a couple of summer friendly appearances for Neath prior to the 2014/15 season when he impressed one or two respected judges at The Gnoll and Neath continued to monitor his progress last year when he helped Skewen win Division 1 South West.

Meanwhile, there is good news of Gareth’s brother Cameron who nailed down a centre spot at The Gnoll last season before leaving to play in New Zealand in the summer.

Cameron has been playing in the South Island for the Athletic Marist club. He has played in all 13 of their games to date, scoring 9 tries and winning 3 man of the match nominations.

As a result, Cameron has broken into the North Otago provincial squad and will clock up more air-miles as he is shortly off to Canada with North Otago as they build up for their ITM Cup challenge. Then it will be back to Neath where he expects to be re-united with his brother again in late October.

Neath team manager Martyn Morris said, “We are delighted to have signed Gareth and welcome him into the squad proper. It is always good to see local youngsters stepping up to the mark and we see him primarily as a full back where he and Ed Howley who made a big impression at the end of last season will really challenge each other.

“Gareth’s brother Cameron made big strides last year with some eye-catching displays for us and we are looking forward to his return too. We are building the all-round depth we need for the Premiership and centre will be a strong area for us with Gavin Evans, Rory Morgan-Williams, Keiran Williams and Matthew Pearce also on board.”
