One hundred years ago , peace had returned to these islands and the following appeared in the “Cambria Daily Leader”(January 14th, 1919) :-
“NEATH v. NEW ZEALAND- The Neath Football Club Committee has arranged a match with New Zealand for February 1st next, and a practice match for Saturday next. All players are invited to send in their names and positions to the secretary, Mr. A. L. David.”
The suggestion was premature as the proposed fixture did not take place although Neath did get to play the New Zealanders at Easter and lost 3-10.
And what will we be doing on February 1st this year ?
Watching France-Wales prior to Ebbw Vale on 2nd.
