Neath RFC will be starting their preparations for life back in the Premiership in 2023/24 with a new Strength, Fitness and Conditioning coach.
Chris Thomas who played twice for Neath during a career which embraced spells at Neath Athletic, Tata Steel and Swansea takes over the key role from Idris Hanmer who has stepped down due to business and family commitments.
Last season, Chris coached with Swansea and at regional age-grade and Neath coach Patrick Horgan said, “We are pleased to have Chris on board as he is an experienced operator and is just the man to ensure that our players benefit from the new gym facility we have installed at The Gnoll.
“Returning to the Premiership means that we must improve our standards across the board and Chris will be an important part of that. He is very enthusiastic, organised and keen to make an impression.”
Chris Thomas said, “We met up as a squad this week to lay the ground-rules for the season and I can’t wait to get started in earnest.
“My role is to help individuals get faster, fitter, stronger for life back in the Premiership.
It is all about raising standards and together we can go places. We’ll have a shorter than usual pre-season starting early next month and we’ll really get moving from there.”
Neath secretary Mike Price said, “We are pleased to have Chris take over this vital role – we have another good local man who will continue to build upon Idris’ good work.
“At the same time, we thank Idris for his contribution to our success in the last couple of seasons and wish him well in his business venture.”
