Neath scrum-half Scott Gibson has been called up for the British & Irish Cup – but it is not with his home region Ospreys, instead it is with Cardiff Blues.
The 25 year old Onllwyn-based Gibson is wanted by the Blues for their dead-rubber games against Leinster ‘A’ and Bristol as the competition enters its death throes.
Neath team manager Martyn Morris said, “Apparently there is nothing in the rules to prevent players appearing cross-region although some clubs stop their players – sometimes within their own patch, believe it or not.
“Despite our injury problems, Neath are always happy to see our players move up along the pathway – even if we hit dead-ends occasionally – and we are glad to see Scott having a chance.
“Quite what it says about all the scrum-halves in the Blues region, I don’t know. You would have thought that with clubs like Cardiff, Merthyr and Pontypridd going well they might have something to say about it’
“But we will not hold Scott back and hope he goes well.”
