Neath RFC

There is an extra treat for supporters when Neath entertain 50th anniversary celebrating South Gower at The Gnoll on Saturday (kick off 2.30pm).

South Gower is the home club of the three Kneath brothers who are in the current Neath squad. One of Neath’s all-time greats – full back Paul Thorburn – is their President and he will kick off proceedings.

Neath’s last home game resulted in a spectacular 46-21 win over Bargoed and last Saturday they won 28-19 at Llangennech to retain second spot in the Premiership.

With table-topping Pontypridd to come next week, coaches Tim Ryan and Ryan Evans have named an interesting team which features four newcomers and is captained by Lewis Evans for the first time.

Up front, Josh Jones and Tarik Dabeh prop either side of Josh Clark with Dan Watkins and Ben McPhail locking the scrum – Neath supporters will remember Ben’s father John who was an outstanding back rower for the All Blacks. The back row features Morgan Kneath, Fergus Kneath and Jordan Evans.

Behind the scrum, Gareth Rees (Kenfig Hill) debuts at full back with Llewellyn Hawkes and Nathan Orrells on the wings. Centre Harris Simmons (Cwmtwrch) is another newcomer alongside Lee Evans while Neath borrow Ystalyfera halves Cian John and Kaden Davies.

The replacements’ bench includes other local youngsters whom Neath are keen to look at as well the third Kneath brother Evan and Dyfan Ceredig who will make his first appearance of the season.

Please bring season tickets for admission (£5) – plenty of covered seating on a day when rain is forecast.
