Neath RFC

Neath RFC are sorry to hear of the deaths of two occasional former players earlier in the week – former policeman Derry Moore and once-capped Wales full back Haydn Mainwaring.
Derry rose to the rank of Chief Superintendent in South Wales Police, played prop for Neath Athletic and was a proud member of the Former Players. Being a great friend and neighbour in Dinas Powys of John Huw Williams, he was a regular supporter at Neath’s games at Cardiff in recent seasons.

Haydn Mainwaring played primarily for Swansea and Newport, also for London Welsh, Harlequins, various Services teams – and Neath as well as the Barbarians, his shoulder tackle on Springbok captain Avril Malan helping the Ba-Ba’s become the only team to beat the tourists in 1960/61.

The Neath club’s sympathy go to both the families at this sad time.
