Neath RFC’s highly-successful 2022/23 campaign is over !
Ystrad Rhondda have called off Wednesday’s scheduled visit to The Gnoll and have informed the WRU that they are conceding the game with a 4-try, 20-nil win being given to Neath.
The cancellation will come as bad news for hooker Sion Crocker who was well placed to have a crack at the Neath RFC forward record of 25 tries – he is stranded on 23 tries just two short of Mark Jones’ record set in 1988/89.
Neath secretary Mike Price said, “We were half-expecting the postponement as we appreciate that Ystrad Rhondda put everything into their fine effort against Pontypool last week.
“We’d have liked to have played it and thus completed our full 26-game programme but we fully understand and sympathise with Ystrad’s difficulties – and playing on bone-hard pitches at this time of year is no fun.
“The boys were hoping to sign off in style as a thank you to our wonderful supporters and it is a great pity for Sion Crocker in particular.
“At least it will give the squad a slightly longer, more ‘normal’ and very well-earned summer break.
“We thank everyone involved in a memorable season and we look forward now to next year and the Premiership.”
